Eighteen directors and VPs from a software company spent six nights on Iceland's south coast and in Reykjavík. Glacier lagoon, Silfra, and two full planning days.
This was a leadership retreat rather than a reward, and the brief reflected that: eighteen people, two half-days of structured planning, and the rest of the week built to get a distributed team into the same room without a conference centre in sight.
We split the trip between three nights in Vík and three in Reykjavík. The planning sessions ran on the mornings of days two and three in Vík, with the afternoons given to Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss and the canyon walk. The glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach took the whole of day four on the way back west. Silfra was optional; fourteen of the eighteen went in.
September gave the group long days and a real chance of the northern lights, which showed on the second night in Vík for about forty minutes. We never promise them.
The group shared the driving in three vehicles, which we recommend for Iceland because it turns the transfers into part of the trip. Our host rode in the lead vehicle and handled every stop, entry and dinner reservation.
